The African proverb above holds true in running and in life. A strong role model and team can make all the difference in one’s ability to unlock their full potential. Mentors offer guidance, inspire, and have the ability to create a positive impact that lasts a lifetime. While running is undoubtedly a powerful tool in the empowerment and development of girls, we want to take this a step further. That’s why mentorship and youth development for girls is a key element in the work we do in a number of ways.
Big Sister Pen Pal Program
Our Big Sister Pen Pal Program connects girls on our running teams with a young runner who has more experience in the sport. A Big Sister is a mentor who can offer guidance as the girls navigate their first steps in the sport. It’s a chance to build friendships, provide girls with positive role models, and establish a global network of girls who are changing the world for the better.
Guest Speakers & Life Skills Workshops
Hearing someone else’s story might just change your own. That’s why, similar to the activities at the team-launch programs, we hope to offer enrichment opportunities virtually each month. Girls on our running teams will have the chance to frequently take part in things like Q&As with professional athletes, learning activities with professionals, athletic development sessions like yoga or strength training, and more.
We are constantly seeking potential guest speakers. If you are an athlete or professional willing to share your insight and experience with the girls, please contact us via at contact@girlsrunglobal.org
We are currently building an amazing lineup of guest speakers and enrichment opportunities for our in-person launch program for the running team at SEGA Girls’ School.
